چکیده

Case Summary A 47 year-old African American man presented to the hospital with three a day history of fever, shortness of breath, nausea, emesis, dark urine, and progressive confusion. The symptoms began one day following an infusion of a “vitamin complex” at his physician’s office. The patient’s medical history was significant for retroperitoneal fibrosis with multiple urological procedures, for which he was taking oxybutinin and tamsulosin.

بررسی تاثیر ویتامین E در درمان حمله حاد همولیز در بیماران مبتلاء به کمبود آنزیم گلوکز --۶فسفات دهیدروژناز(فاویسم‌)

ABSTRACT Glucose -6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD)deficiency is the most common inheritory enzyme defect in human. With this deficiency, red blood cells are susceptible to hemolysis induced by oxidants .Drage and foods (esp. fava beans) are the most common oxidants that cause acute hemolysis (Favism). Vitamin E.that is an potent antioxidant, was studied in chronic hemolysis of these patients. ...

Effect of hypervitaminosis A on hemolysis and lipid peroxidation in the rat.

Erythrocytes from rats fed large doses of Vitamin A alone, or large doses of vitamin A and vitamin E or diphenyl-p-phenylene diamine (DPPD) were studied for H2O2-induced hemolysis. The vitamin A-dosed rats were more susceptible than normal rats to H2O2-induced hemolysis. Hemolysis was not accompanied by lipid peroxidation. Nevertheless, the antioxidants vitamin E and DPPD inhibited hemolysis in...

Oxidative hemolysis of erythrocytes and its inhibition by free radical scavengers.

The oxidative hemolysis of rabbit erythrocytes induced by free radicals and its inhibition by chain-breaking antioxidants have been studied. The free radicals were generated from either a water-soluble or a lipid-soluble azo compound which, upon its thermal decomposition, gave carbon radicals that reacted with oxygen immediately to give peroxyl radicals. The radicals generated in the aqueous ph...

Exercise-induced oxidative stress leads hemolysis in sedentary but not trained humans.

Intravascular hemolysis is one of the most emphasized mechanisms for destruction of erythrocytes during and after physical activity. Exercise-induced oxidative stress has been proposed among the different factors for explaining exercise-induced hemolysis. The validity of oxidative stress following exhaustive cycling exercise on erythrocyte damage was investigated in sedentary and trained subjec...

Hemolysis and hyperhomocysteinemia caused by cobalamin deficiency: three case reports and review of the literature

Concurrent hemolysis in patients with vitamin B12 deficiency is a well-recognized phenomenon and has been attributed to intramedullary destruction of erythrocytes (ineffective erythropoiesis). Recent studies revealed that homocysteine increased the risk of hemolysis in vitamin B12 deficiency in vitro and there is a high frequency (30%) of vitamin B12 deficiency in asymptomatic patients with hom...

The Efficacy of Vitamin E and Folic acid on the Acute Hemolysis Caused by Glucose-6 phosphate Dehydrogenase

Background: Glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is the most common inherited enzyme deficiency of red blood cells involving the enzyme pathway of hexose monophosphate. This study was conducted to examine the effect of vitamin E and folic acid on the improvement of acute hemolysis caused by the G6PD deficiency in patients referred to 17 Shahrivar Hospital, Rasht. Materials and M...
